Subscriber profile
See everything about one subscriber in one place, and unsubscribe, tag, enroll or remove them.
Opening a profile
Go to Audience > Subscribers, open the People tab and click anyone in the list. You can also click an email address in a manual segment's member list.
The profile has three parts: a card on the left about the person, numbers along the top, and activity tabs underneath.
The profile card
At the top of the card is the person's status badge, such as Subscribed, Web reader, Unconfirmed or Unsubscribed, then their email address and name. Below that:
- Subscriber since: the date they joined.
- Subscription tier: the name of their paid tier, or Paid or Free when there is no tier name.
The card also has sections you can open:
| Section | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Quick links | Their Unique referral link, with a copy button. It shows "Not available" until your publication has a website. |
| Acquisition details | Where they came from: Channel, Medium, Campaign and Source. |
| Custom fields | Every custom field you've created, with this person's value. |
| Tags | The tags on this person. |
| Automation history | How many automations they're Currently enrolled in, and how many they were Previously enrolled in. |
Editing custom field values
Each custom field has a menu with Edit and Delete:
- Edit lets you type a new value. Click Save, or press Enter. Saving an empty value clears it.
- Delete removes this person's value for that field. The field itself, and other people's values, stay.
Fields with no value show a dash. If a survey answer allowed several choices, the choices are shown separated by commas. See the Custom fields guide for how fields work.
Adding and removing tags
Click the tag box and choose a tag from the list to add it. Click the small cross on a tag to remove it. View all opens the Tags tab of the Subscribers page, where you create and manage tags.
The numbers
| Card | What it counts |
|---|---|
| Total emails delivered | Your emails that reached this person. |
| Total emails opened | How many of those they opened. |
| Open rate | Opened as a share of delivered. |
| Click through rate | How often they clicked links in your emails. |
| Total Revenue | The total of their paid invoices. |
Activity tabs
| Tab | What it lists |
|---|---|
| Newsletters | Newsletter emails sent, delivered, opened and clicked, with the newsletter's title. |
| Automations | Automations they started and finished. |
| Polls | Polls they answered, and the choice they picked. |
| Referrals | People they referred, with each person's name or status. |
| Profile Events | Changes to their subscription, such as subscribing, unsubscribing, upgrading and downgrading. |
| Billing | Their paid subscription and invoices. |
The Newsletters, Automations, Polls, Referrals and Profile Events tabs each show five entries at first. Click Show More to see the rest. Polls and Referrals list the newest first. Billing is laid out differently and shows every invoice, as described below.
Billing
Billing details shows the paid subscription's Status, Tier, Amount, Trial days and Current period. Invoice history lists each invoice with its Period, Status and Amount, and a link to open the invoice.
When the subscription is active or in a trial, a Cancel subscription button appears. Cancelling stops it from renewing. The reader keeps paid access until the end of the current billing period. Cancelling also starts any automations that use the Downgrade trigger.
Actions
The button at the top right of the profile opens a menu:
- Unsubscribe: they stop receiving your emails. They keep access to your website as a reader. There is no button to subscribe them again; they can subscribe again themselves from your website.
- Add to Automations: tick one or more automations and click Enroll. They start each automation straight away, whatever its trigger.
- Delete Subscriber: removes them from this publication permanently, along with their tags and custom field values here. This can't be undone.
Unsubscribing and deleting both need permission to manage subscribers. Enrolling needs permission to manage automations.
Troubleshooting
I enrolled someone but nothing happened: only published automations run. A draft automation skips the enrollment without an error. Publish the automation, then enroll them again.
"Automations aren't included in this publication's plan": your plan doesn't include automations, so nobody can be enrolled. Upgrade to turn them on.
The referral link says "Not available": your publication needs a website before readers have referral links.
The numbers are all zero: they count the emails you have sent this person. Someone who joined recently, or who hasn't been sent anything yet, has nothing to count.
Total Revenue is $0.00 for a paid reader: it adds up paid invoices only. A reader still in a free trial hasn't paid an invoice yet.
I unsubscribed someone by mistake: ask them to subscribe again from your website. Because they were unsubscribed, they'll have to confirm their email address first.
