RSS feed
Your site's RSS feed, where to find its address, what each post shows, how to leave a post out and how to turn the feed off.
Your feed's address
Every publication site has an RSS feed, so readers can follow your posts in a feed reader and other sites can pick them up. It is at your site's address followed by /feed.xml, for example https://news.example.com/feed.xml. The same feed is also served at /rss and /feed.
To copy the exact address, open Website, click Edit website, then Settings, SEO defaults. It is under RSS feed, with a copy button. Your site's pages also point feed readers to it, so pasting your site's home page address into most readers finds it.
What the feed shows
The feed lists your 20 newest published posts, newest first. Each one has its title, a link to the post on your site, the publish date, its authors, its first content tag and its thumbnail.
- Free posts appear in full.
- Paid posts show only the opening, about 60 words, with a link to read the rest on your site.
- Email-only posts are never in the feed.
Feed readers check feeds on their own schedule, and the feed may take up to 10 minutes to show a new post.
Leaving a post out
Turn on Hide the Newsletter from feed on the post's Web step, under Post visibility. The post is then left out of the RSS feed, your website's post lists and its sitemap. It is still published, and anyone with its link can open it. You can turn it on or off at any time, including after the post is published.
Turning the feed off
The feed is on for every publication by default. To turn it off, switch off RSS feed under SEO defaults and click Save. The feed's address then answers "not found".
A private publication never has a feed, whatever the switch says.
Linking to it
Under Settings, Social links, the RSS Feed field suggests your feed's address. Click Use my feed to fill it in, then Save, and any Social Links block on your site shows an RSS link.
