Recommendations

Recommend other publications to your readers, invite others to recommend you, and see how many subscribers recommendations bring in.

How recommendations work

Recommendations let publishers team up to grow together. You pick publications you like, and your readers see them on your website. Other publishers can do the same for you.

You can recommend up to 20 publications. Up to four of them are your Top 4. Only your Top 4 are shown to readers:

  • wherever your website uses a Recommendations block, such as your site's Recommendations page
  • in a Recommendations step of your signup flow, if you add one

When a reader follows one of your recommendations from the Recommendations block on your website and subscribes there, that subscriber is credited to your recommendation.

Open Recommendations from the main menu. The page has two tabs: Your recommendations and Recommending you.

Finding publications to recommend

Click Discover publications. Publications relevant to you lists active publications you don't already recommend. Search by name, or narrow the list by category and language. Each card shows the publication's topics, subscriber count, number of newsletters and country.

Click Recommend to add a publication. It's added to your list but not yet to your Top 4. You'll find it under Previously featured, marked "Not featured yet".

You can't recommend your own publication.

Your recommendations

At the top, Subscribers referred shows how many of your subscribers came to you through other publications' recommendations, all time and for each of the last six months.

Below it, two views:

Top 4

Your top 4 recommendations are the ones shown on your website. Each card shows how many subscribers that recommendation has referred to the other publication. From a card's menu:

  • Add to new Newsletter: starts a new draft newsletter with that recommendation already in it.
  • View publication details: language, number of newsletters, website, subscribers, when they last posted, and categories.
  • Remove from my top 4: moves it back to Previously featured. It stays in your list.

Remove from recommendation takes the publication off your list completely.

While you have fewer than four, an empty slot lets you open Discover publications.

Recommendations that aren't in your Top 4, with the date each was last featured. Search them, and sort by Newest, Oldest or Subscribers Referred. From a row's menu:

  • Add to my top 4
  • View publication details
  • View website

Your Top 4 can only hold four. If it's full, remove one before adding another.

Recommending you

This tab lists the publications that recommend you, with Subscribers referred: how many subscribers each has sent you. Use View details to learn more about a publication.

Inviting others to recommend you

Click Invite others to recommend you to get your invite link, then Copy it and share it anywhere. Another publisher who opens the link can add you straight to their Top 4 in one click.

Troubleshooting

I recommended a publication but it isn't on my site: new recommendations aren't in your Top 4 yet. Open Previously featured and choose Add to my top 4.

"Your Top 4 is full": remove one from your Top 4 first.

"Maximum number of recommendations reached": you already have 20. Remove one you no longer need with Remove from recommendation.

A publication is missing from Discover publications: you may already recommend it, or it may not be active right now. Check your Previously featured list.

Someone's invite link doesn't work for them: their Top 4 may be full. They need to make room before adding you.
