Newsletter reports
See how your issues perform over time, from opens and clicks to deliverability, timing and your audience's devices.
Where to find reports
Reports live on the Newsletters page. Click Reports at the top (Posts is your list of posts). Reports open first by default.
You need a role that can read every post to see Reports. Otherwise the page shows only Posts.
Choosing what to report on
At the top right are two controls:
- All issues: report on every issue, or pick one published issue to report on that send alone.
- Date range: 7 days, 28 days, 90 days or 12 months. It starts on 28 days.
The summary cards
With All issues selected, the cards add up every issue sent in the range:
| Card | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Issues sent | How many issues went out. |
| Delivered | Emails accepted by readers' mail servers. |
| Unique opens | Readers who opened, counted once per issue. |
| Open rate | Unique opens out of delivered. |
| Click-through rate | Unique clicks out of delivered. |
| Click-to-open rate | Unique clicks out of unique opens: how many openers clicked. |
Rates are worked out from the added-up counts, so a large send counts for more than a small one. When the range has more than one issue, most cards also show a small trend line.
The tabs
Performance
- Open and click rates per issue: one point per issue, in the order they were sent.
- Engagement funnel: Sent, Delivered, Opened and Clicked, added up across the range.
- Issues in range: every issue with its Delivered, Open rate, CTR and CTOR. Click a column to sort by it.
Links
Every link in your issues, ranked by clicks. See the Click reports guide.
Audience
- Devices: the share of clicks from each kind of device. It's based on clicks rather than opens, because mail apps often open emails on a reader's behalf, which would skew the picture. Unknown means the device couldn't be told.
- Opener cohorts: readers grouped by the month they joined, showing the share who opened something in each later month. It always covers the last six months, whatever range you pick.
Deliverability
- Delivered, Hard bounces (the address doesn't exist) and Soft bounces (temporary problems, such as a full mailbox).
- Three gauges: Delivery rate, Inbox health score and List retention. The inbox health score is a quick summary that weighs spam complaints most heavily, then unsubscribes and bounces.
- Threshold checks: your rates measured against what large mail providers expect.
| Check | OK below | Watch from | Over limit from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hard bounce rate | 0.5% | 0.5% | 2% |
| Spam complaint rate | 0.1% | 0.1% | 0.3% |
| Unsubscribe rate | 0.5% | 0.5% | 1% |
Gmail and Yahoo require spam complaints under 0.3%, and prefer under 0.1%.
Timing
- Open decay after send: opens in each hour after an issue went out, up to 48 hours, with a line for the running total.
- When opens happen: a grid of opens by day of the week and hour. The busiest slot is named above it. Hours are in UTC.
Content tags and Authors
How issues perform by topic and by guest author. See the Content tags and Guest authors guides.
Reporting on one issue
Pick an issue from All issues to focus on it. A note says "Reporting on a single issue — figures below are this send only", with View post and Clear.
The date range goes away, and the cards show that issue's Delivered, Open rate, Click-through rate, Click-to-open rate, Unsubscribe rate and Bounce rate. Only the Performance and Links tabs are available.
Only published issues are listed.
Troubleshooting
"No issues were sent in this range.": try a longer date range.
The cards show a dash: the numbers didn't load. Use Retry in the tab below.
I can't see Reports: your role only lets you see your own posts.
The device chart has few entries: it is built from clicks, so it fills in as readers click links.
