Billing and plan
See which plan your publication is on, change or cancel it, and manage your payment details and invoices.
Where to find it
Go to Settings, Billing & Plan. Only the owner and admins can open it. Each publication has its own plan and its own billing.
The page has three sections: Billing Summary, Your Current Plan and Billing Details.
Billing summary
- Last Payment: the amount and date of your most recent payment, or "No payments yet".
- Next Payment Due: what your next bill will be and when, or "No upcoming payment" while you are on the free plan.
Your current plan
This card shows your plan's name, whether it is billed monthly or annually, and your current number of subscribers. Underneath, it lists some highlights of the plan.
The free plan is Launch. The paid plans are Scale and Max.
Subscriber limit
If your plan has a subscriber limit, the card shows a bar with how many of your allowed subscribers you have, for example "800 out of 1,000 subscribers". Once you reach the limit, new subscribers can't join. Signups and imports are refused with "This plan is limited to N subscribers. Upgrade your plan to continue growing." Your existing subscribers are not affected.
Changing your plan
- Click Change to open Compare plans.
- Choose Pay monthly or Pay annually. Paying annually costs less, and the badge shows how much you save.
- Move the Choose your subscriber size slider to see the price for your list size.
- Click Upgrade to Scale or Upgrade to Max (or Switch to a lower plan).
- Coming from the free Launch plan, enter your card details and click Confirm Payment. Already on a paid plan, the button reads Confirm Switch and your saved card is used. Click Change beside the card if you want to enter a different one.
The change takes effect straight away. Your bill is based on how many subscribed readers you have, so the price on the card is a guide for the size you chose.
To move between monthly and annual billing on the same plan, open Change, pick the other billing period, and click Switch to annual billing or Switch to monthly billing.
Enterprise plans have custom pricing and can't be chosen here.
Cancelling
On a paid plan, click Cancel Plan and confirm with Yes, Cancel Plan. Nothing changes right away:
- Your plan stays active until the end of the period you have paid for. The card shows "Cancels" and the date.
- After that date your publication moves to the free Launch plan.
Changed your mind? Click Resume Plan any time before that date, and your plan carries on as before. Choosing a new plan with Change also cancels the cancellation.
When a plan leaves something out
If you move to a plan that doesn't include a feature you use, Inkwave keeps your setup but stops or limits that feature until you upgrade again. For example:
- Webhooks: your endpoints are kept, but no events are sent.
- Automations: existing automations can be edited, but can't be switched on or enrol anyone new. Runs already in progress finish.
- Paid subscriptions: existing paid subscribers keep their subscriptions, but you can't add tiers or take new ones.
- API access: your keys and connected assistants are kept, and work again after an upgrade.
- Private branding: the Inkwave badge comes back on your emails. Your choice is remembered for when you upgrade again.
- Team seats: people already on your team stay, but you can't invite more until you are under the limit.
Billing details
Once you have upgraded, click Update Billing Info. It opens Stripe's secure billing portal, where you can update your card and billing information and see your invoices. When you are done, you come back to this page.
Before your first upgrade, this section says "Available after you upgrade to a paid plan."
Troubleshooting
My card was declined: if the card details themselves are rejected, a message appears under the card form. If the payment fails after that, a message pops up on the screen instead. Check the details or try another card, then confirm again.
"Publication is already on the ... plan": you picked the plan and billing period you are already on. Choose a different plan or period.
I can't see the Billing & Plan page: only the owner and admins can manage billing. Ask one of them.
New subscribers can't sign up: you may have reached your plan's subscriber limit. Check the bar on Your Current Plan, and upgrade to keep growing.
